When hubby and I are in the mood for something vegetarian that is sour, spicy and a little sweet, we go to Sandringham in Auckland. I was craving Sev and Khaman and hubby wanted Dhey Puri. If you looking for street food, this is the place to visit. Food is tasty, sweet and sour and we really enjoy it. The little restaurant is called Mumbai Chaat, its very plain and simple but food is delicious :)
I will explain both dishes as best as I can.
Puri is what you see as been stuffed, its' made of white flour.
The filling is a bit of sweet and sour, includes, yogurt, chickpeas, potatoes, yogurt which is called dhey, sev (yellow thin looking sticks and tamarind sauce). I was a bit naughty and decided to have a bite, its very tasty.
Khaman is made of chickpea flour that is mixed with some spices and steamed.
They added sev, tamarind and green chutney. Its served warm, is great in winter or summer and even more delicious with a cup of masala tea.
So if you ever in Sandringham looking for a vegetarian dish, I would recommend trying these 2 dishes. Let me know if you have any questions :)
